Patrick Gray died from wounds on 23rd August, 1917, after having been brought back to the United Kingdom but as yet, there is no information, as to when and where he was wounded. The 1st Royal Fusiliers battalion was part of 17 Brigade, 24th Division and had arrived in France at the beginning of the war and had been involved in the fighting on the Western Front since that date, including the Third Battle of Ypres in the summer and autumn of 1917.
